As far as I can see, there are two great mysteries of baby naming:
1. Naming Australian children after US states; and
2. Taking perfectly good names and spelling them phonetically.
And here we see a confluence of these two mysteries:

And not only Jorja, but Jorja RHINO?
Get a grip, peoples!
I spent every Saturday morning scanning the Canberra Times for stupid baby names. I keep a list. I'm thinking I might start looking in more exotic places, like the Daily Telegraph.
*cringe* my friend has a baby boy "Zackery"
Noice, different, unusual!
Then there are the cruelties of naming a child Scharlene or Narelle. Also starting to see more Darren's & Wayne's.... mmm resurgence in the names of old.
*apologies to anyone with these names :-)
Well - and this is true - I have met someone called Nigel-Ann.
And I have just gone and googled it, and it turns out there is quite a few of them around.
A friend swears that some acquaintances of hers have just given their child the middle name of Danger. Parents can be so cruel.
Duck - hee! The LovelyWife likes to do that to. Thanks to the fabulous information highway one can peruse horrific baby names from all around the country!
Bluebolt - Scharlene? Haven't seen that before. Although I have heard of a Shazlene. That might have been a joke though.
Thirdcat - That is just cruel. Who are these people? Aren't they worried they are turning their kids into objects of ridicule?
Grundnorm - Pfff. That HAS to be a joke. Maybe your 'friend' failed to get it?
Narelle's often thought to be a recently made up name, but it's a very old Aussie name. My late partner was Narelle, called after an aunt born in 1912, and she was named after her mother. I'm a kiwi and had never heard of it until I met her. BTW, In Switzerland you can only name a baby from a list of offically approved names.
Remy - French = classy!
M-H - Liking the sound of that officially approved name list. I wonder if I can get myself on the panel that draws up the list....
