I need a quick show of hands...

Ok, time for a quick survey.

Do you think it is tacky/unacceptable/inappropriate for people to have pinned up at their desks at work ultrasound photographs of their unborn child?

This is apparently all the rage at the LovelyWife's place of employ and for her, it is akin to pinning up one's gall-bladder scans or brain MRI results.

I guess I don't see it as much in the medical sense as she does - more akin to just a regular photo of a child. I also suggested that maybe she needs to relax, just a little bit...

And what better way to seek resolution of this meaningless and insignificant difference of opinion than by seeking the views of complete strangers!!!

I wouldn't say that it was tacky, unacceptable or inappropriate, but I can see how she would feel it was akin to any other medical scan - like a chest xray or something.

Personally, I just think that it is a bit odd. Isn't that something that is more appropriately displayed at home - where people actually care that you are having a baby?

I think it depends entirely on whether you are told whether it's a boy or a girl first, and whether you're allowed to stand around those people's desks searching for a tiny willy or lack thereof to deduce the bebbe's gender.

Otherwise, I think everyone should be required to bring in their latest radiology image to even things up. I have a nice x-ray of my foot from when Mr TLA dropped a bottle of wine on it last year.

I had to watch the video of someone's scan once. In my tea break.

I'd think of them more as a 'first' baby photo. They're photos of little human beings, which is a much nicer thought that looking at someone's cancerous nodules. At least they're in black and white.

I would draw the line at the video tho'. All those amniotic fluids... Was there sound? Ugh. While drinking tea? Gulp.

If I'd had a brain MRI I'd put the results up on my bulletin board. Seriously, I regularly subject the boys I work with to baby scans, and they seem to be coping. But then, I am their boss.

Tell LovelyWife to stop being such a baby-hater.

Somehow, schwatsy, I don't think it's the babies that are the problem.

If I had to choose in the workplace between looking at ultrasounds and looking at 'cute' mottoes, souvenirs and fluffy toys, I'd take the ultrasounds every time.

Of course, a photograph of a handsome cat is far preferable to either.

I tend to think it a little creepy, but not super creepy. And yes, more cats, less kids (whether pre or post birth).

I vote for just another baby picture, and relaxing.

You should probably ply her with Scotch.
